Xeriscape Garden Offers ‘Simple’ Tips

Spring is in the air, and Halawa Xeriscape Garden hosts “5 Simple Steps to a Beautiful Garden” from 10:30 a.m. to noon May 23 at its location at 99-1268 Iwaena St.

Offered by Board of Water Supply and Friends of Halawa Xeriscape Garden, this workshop will show participants how to create a beautiful garden efficiently, which saves time, money and natural resources.

The workshop covers five steps for gardening: proper planning and budgeting, soil amendments, companion planting, maintenance and timely problem mitigation. According to the garden, these steps apply to large and small gardening areas, and incorporate xeriscaping and water conservation principles.

Cost is $5, or free for Friends of Halawa Xeriscape Garden members. Register by May 22 (or when all spaces are filled) at workshops@hbws.org, or call 748-5363. More information can be found online at boardofwatersupply.org.
