Where and with whom did you see the movie?
Consolidated Ward Theatres, with my wife, Mona Wood-Sword.
Overall what did you think?
I thought it was great, a very exciting movie — one of the best in the X-Men franchise, if not the best.
Without giving away the ending, what was one of your favorite scenes?
One of my favorite scenes was early on when Quicksilver was shown in slow motion redirecting guns and bullets in mid-air aimed at our heroes during an escape attempt.
When the scene resumed in “real time,” the bad guys were shooting at each other and themselves, totally caught by surprise.
On a scale of one to four stars, what would you rate this film?
★★★.
What did you think of the cinematography?
The film has excellent visuals.
Was the message/theme clear?
Yes. When you tamper with history, even the slightest change can make a huge difference in the outcome.
Did it remind you of any other works of film?
Not really, but it carries on the X-Men torch very well.
To whom would you recommend this movie?
Any Marvel or comic book fan would enjoy this film, but I would put the age group from late teens/young adults and above.
Did any of the actors stand out?
Everyone did a great job, but Hugh Jackman and the young Xavier, James McAvoy, stood out in this film, and Jennifer Lawrence was also excellent as Raven/Mystique. I am a huge fan of Patrick Stewart, but he and Ian McKellen had secondary roles. Evan Peters’ Quicksilver was also a very fun character.
Did you identify with any of the characters?
Not really … I’m not a mutant (laughs)!
Did the soundtrack contribute significantly to the film?
The score by John Ottman does what a good movie score should — it adds intensity to the emotion of every scene. The choice of soundtracks, like The First Time Ever I Saw Your Face, and C’est Si Bon, were used effectively to define the era when Wolverine goes back in time.
Would you buy this movie when it comes out on DVD?
Definitely — will add it to my X-Men collection!
What’s your favorite movie snack?
Popcorn (without that fake butter), Raisinets and Diet Coke.
