Where and with whom did you see the movie?
I saw the movie at Ward Consolidated Theatres with Cindy Cammarata.
Overall, what did you think?
Overall, a beautiful film with lovely storytelling about a compelling historical event not widely recognized.
Without giving away the ending, what was one of your favorite scenes?
I have two favorite scenes, both of them flashbacks to World War II. One was a chase scene that had me at the edge of my seat, and the second was a combination of past and present that was extremely moving.
On a scale of one to four stars, what would you rate this film?
★★★★.
What did you think of the cinematography?
The movie was beautifully shot — historically accurate Los Angeles in 1998 and Vienna during World War II with extreme attention to historical detail.
Was the message/theme clear?
The message was one of honoring one’s culture and honoring the truth.
Did it remind you of any other works of film?
Visually, it reminded me of other films set in the same era, but it is a very unique film.
Who would you recommend this movie to?
I wouldn’t recommend it for children, but for history and art fans definitely.
Did any of the actors stand out?
It was a great cast. Helen Mirren was exceptional. Ryan Reynolds did a wonderful job, and I was very surprised by the supporting cast, considering how small some of the roles were. Actors such as Katie Holmes, Tatiana Maslany (Orphan Black), Charles Dance (Game of Thrones), Elizabeth McGovern (Downton Abbey) and Francis Fisher.
Did you identify with any of the characters?
I didn’t identify with anyone in particular. All of the characters were very real and easily identified with emotionally.
Did the soundtrack contribute significantly to the film?
Yes, it did. It helped the viewer connect with the journey of the characters and didn’t distract in any way.
Would you buy this movie when it comes out on DVD? I would buy this movie.
What’s your favorite movie snack?
Popcorn, of course!
On a different note, what’s new with you?
