Windward Girls Soccer Teams Stand Out As OIA All-Stars
With all four Windward schools compiling overall winning records, the recent girls soccer season was one to remember. Castle, Kalaheo, Kailua and Kahuku had their share of honorees when the OIA revealed its All-Conference teams.
The Knights, who finished 6-2-3 overall (6-13 in OIA games) had three players chosen as First Team East All-Stars, including Macie Akai (midfielder), Kayla Cabael (defender) and Kauanoe Everett (goalkeeper).
Jenna Oue made the Second Team as a midfielder, and receiving Honorable Mention were Jayli Miyamoto, Tiffanie Bush and Brandee Lane.
Kalaheo finished its season 8-6-2 overall (5-5-2 in OIA conference games) and made the Division II state soccer tournament for the second straight year. The Mustangs had taken second in the OIA White post-season tournament, dropping the title game 4-1 to Waipahu. Kalaheo avenged that defeat in the fifth-place game of the state championships with a 3-1 win over the Marauders to cap off the season.
Seniors Monique Ishikawa and Kiana Forsythe were both named Second Team AllConference from the Mustangs. Ishikawa is a midfielder, while Forsythe made the list as an attacker. Sarah McAllaster, Tammra Cacal, Jennifer Chun and Marissa Speakman also earned Honorable Mention.
Kahuku’s Renee Oei made the First Team as an attacker. She tallied six goals for the Red Raiders, who finished 62-3 overall (6-1-3 in OIA games). Kahuku teammates Chantel Abregano (midfielder) and Jaclyn Johnson (defender) both made the Second Team. Genie Hyatt, Kayla Taulapapa, Harley Hix and Ashley Mataela received Honorable Mentions.
Kailua also had a solid season, finishing 5-4-4 (42-4 in OIA games) under Malu Afong. The Surfriders’ Sierra Kadooka was selected for the First Team as a defender, while Janell Alameida, Taylor Tam, Jamie Galveso and Caitlin Hooker received Honorable Mention.
