Pearl City High graduate Robert Sugiyama has been named associate general manager at Ward Village. He now is responsible for overseeing the operations, accounts and coordination of the establishment’s multiple properties. He also will help to carry out accounting, relationship building and program development to enhance customer experience and tenant sales. He also spent time honing his expertise in development and real estate overseas in United Kingdom and Japan. Most recently, Sugiyama was account manager for Colliers International, overseeing the management and leasing of nearly 50 properties for Kamehameha Schools.
Pearl City native and Logistic Specialist Seaman Sidney Sykes has been selected for the Blue Jacket of the Year award. Prior to his Blue Jacket recognition for NAVSUP GLS (Naval Supply Systems Command Global Logistics Support), Sykes was named Blue Jacket of the Quarter (fourth quarter) and 2014 Blue Jacket of the Year for NAVSUP FLC Bahrain.
Voting occurred during a NAVSUP leadership conference held Nov. 20 in San Diego. “Honestly, the whole command, this command is very good about making sure we junior Sailors are taken care of,” stated Sykes. “They help me to grow through physical fitness, being social and being comfortable with myself.”
Tana Samuelu has been named cruise manager for Atlantis Cruises. Samuelu is responsible for directing all facets of Atlantis Cruises’ operations onboard its Navatek cruise vessel, with emphasis given to the food service and entertainment and education program that guests enjoy. Samuelu brings extensive sea-worthy customer service experience to Atlantis, highlighted by the 16 years he previously served aboard the Navatek from 1990 to 2006 as a product manager (10 years) and cruise manager (six years). Prior to rejoining Atlantis, he worked as a sales manager for Wet ‘n’ Wild Kapolei for the past eight years.
Jason Morrison has been promoted to vice president of facilities and engineering with USS Missouri Memorial Association. He joined the association’s management team as chief engineer in November 2013, and has directed several key restoration projects to help preserve the battleship in retirement, and also improve the visitor experience for tours aboard the “Mighty Mo.” In his new position, Morrison is responsible for the continued oversight of all maintenance-related projects for the Missouri and its 1,000-foot pier. He also is charged with managing all aspects of daily facilities operations, including safety, and serves as the association’s environmental officer, ensuring compliance with federal and state laws.
