Two Kaneohe writers, Waimea Williams (Aloha Mozart) and Courtnie Chang (Kolohe Iole) will be honored guests Thursday at Waialua Library’s annual Authors Night (637-8286). Waimea, a former opera singer and award-winning author, also plans a book signing at 4 p.m. Sunday at Na Mea Hawaii in Ward Warehouse.

In her spare time, you can find her on work days at Na Pohaku o Hauwahine, where she’s “one of our best volunteers,” says Kaimi Scudder of Ahahui Malama i ka Lokahi … Joel “Charlie” Hendrix (Castle 2011) is doing well at Daniel Webster College in New Hampshire, being named Player of the Week three times in four weeks for the DWC men’s volleyball team. A middle blocker and outside hitter, Charlie is studying air traffic control management (the off-court kind) and was on Castle coach Pat Woolsey-Gomes‘ team that won the OIA DII title his senior year …

After seeing to fruition WCC’s gleaming Library Commons, its librarian Nancy Heu has retired, closing the book on 37 years at the college. As she told the student newspaper Ka ‘Ohana, “I’ve watched the college grow from a rural campus lucky enough to attract a lunch wagon to a sophisticated campus with beautiful, modern facilities” …

Aloha also to retiring longtime Castle High faculty Linda Bremness, Betty Burns and Richard Haru … Kaneohe’s Jamey Powell received a master’s degree from University of Oklahoma last fall in Norman, Okla.
