Kailua Intermediate will send three students to National History Day competition June 15-19 in College Park, Md.: Cameron Kalaukoa (research paper), and Samantha Jacobsen and Saige Kerns (website on child labor laws). And Kainalu Elementary teachers Irene Yamashita and Grant Oka coached two sixth-grade groups who made the cut for the nationals with projects on the Holocaust and on Fred Korematsu‘s civil rights fight …
Kaneohe’s Kalahikiola Aukai and Kailua’s Brittney Like, meanwhile, made the fall dean’s list at Azusa Pacific University in California (belated pats on the back) … Le Jardin sophomore Maddison Matthews placed fourth in her age group for poetry in the 2014 Water Conservation Week competition.
