Teacher Megan Dolan and some of her colleagues have launched a “Sea to Sea Hurricane Sandy Relief Effort” in the Kailua area selling bracelets for $5 each to rebuild lives. The niece of Anne Marie Duca of Lanikai, Megan is a Rockaway, New York, native whose family home suffered major flood damage, and her friends also are a long way from New Jersey homes targeted by Superstorm Sandy. There’s no doubt that Windward Mall welcomed a sports-related store this month. Both Jesse Sapolu and Joe Onosai attended grand opening events Nov. 3 for Sports Authority … Wild turkeys, it’s said, can run up to 25 mph, faster than Jamaican sprinter Usain Bolt, who averaged 23.35 mph in his world-record 100-meter race. Happy Thanksgiving … The Shigeta family was overwhelmed by a generous community response at their daughter Kelci‘s fundraiser in September at Ben Parker School, and last weekend even Kamehameha student Dayton Dano arranged a benefit for the little girl at Koolau Center. Mom Kelli reports, however, that Kelci has been in pediatric ICU since Sept. 24 with seizures and major breathing problems. Next on their shopping list of medical devices are a ventilator and a trach collar. “She’s fought every step of the way, and she’s not giving up!”

His colleagues (yes, he’s still working) at the Windward Coldwell Banker Pacific Properties office threw Stewart a surprise party last week … Kahaluu artist John Nippolt and his Kalani High art students continue to make their mark – on the “official” graffiti walls of their school, at Aloha Stadium (themed murals) and soon adorning trees in the national Christmas display in Washington, D.C. John himself is creator of the gecko relief sculptures at the entrance to Honolulu Zoo’s Hepatarium … Kailua painter and sculptor Jodi Endicott expands on a subject dear to her heart – “Sculpting Paint” – as guest lecturer at noon Nov. 27 at Hawaii State Art Museum’s Art Lunch (586-0300) … Congratulations to Castle High and its supporters for earning CHS first place in Shop and Score for 2012
