Mililani’s Kristi Hayashida tied for top honors (and a gold medal) in the balance beam for Seattle Pacific University with a career-high 9.875 at Mountain Pacific Sports Federation Women’s Gymnastics Championships March 21 in Anchorage, Alaska. “Kristi had an awesome routine,” says Falcons’ head coach Laurel Tindall of the SPU sophomore. Next up: USAG collegiate championships April 10-12 in Philadelphia. Kristi somehow made the fall dean’s list, too, along with Mililani’s Lauren Marie Buenaventura …
Mililani Hongwanji Judo Club’s Asa Tadaki, age 8 and a 2014 “Go for Broke” award champion, performed a special demonstration March 29 at the 442nd Veterans Club banquet in Waikiki … As part of the 2015 Kaha Ki‘i Congressional Art Competition, works by two Leilehua students made the Top Four, as announced March 28 by U.S. Rep. Tulsi Gabbard. Rhea Erice placed third, and her “Etiolate” entry will hang in Gabbard’s Hawaii office. Yonder Mililani High senior Nicholas Howe (a student of Julia LoPresti) hath placed third at the 2015 state Shakespeare competition Feb. 21, winning a volume of all the Bard’s works plus tickets to Hawaii Shakespeare Festival shows this summer … Mililani High and UH-West Oahu graduate Kevin Yoneda is now floor manager at Servco Auto Waipahu’s Toyota/Chevrolet dealership. Sadie Morelock earned a Gold Key for her painting “Bargaining,” Benjamin Earl (design, “Red Raider Nation”) and India Pyzel (design, “Benoa ’bout It”) earned Silver Keys.
