Honolulu Committee on Aging named Myrtle Nanbara, now living in Mililani, its 2012 Outstanding Female Volunteer for Oahu for her work at Moiliili Community Center. The 90-something Myrtle has given more than 10,000 hours there in the past decade. Now homebound, she still crochets baby blankets for an MCC charity project. Fred Lau of Hawaiian Landscaping and Mari’s Gardens in Mililani played a key role in an August tree planting at Laulima Women’s House in Makiki, which houses three nonprofits. Fred provided the tree at a discount. The 30-foot shower tree that his tree replaced is featured in Disney’s The Odd Life of Timothy Green, but termites finally got the better of it.
