Mililani’s Kristina Donathan has been selected to present her research April 24 in Washington, D.C., at “Posters on the Hill,” a prestigious showcase of undergraduate scholarship. A Chaminade senior studying criminal justice, Kristina will discuss “Public Perception on Punishment of Juveniles with Different Underlying Factors to the Commitment of the Crime,” co-authored with colleagues at Yale.
Kristina also played volleyball for the Silver Swords … Mililani High artist Melani Rosario‘s art show is at 3rd Cup Cafe & Venue, located in the Times Kunia building, not at the nearby Kunia Shopping Center, as stated here April 11 …
Speaking of Kunia, Mililani vocalists did well in Kunia Shopping Center’s first “Kunia Live” singing competition March 24. Taylor-Ann Maeda sung Stand Up for Love and won the 13-17 age division, while Maka’ala Perry took second in the 8-12 division for One Moment in Time. The next contest is from 3 to 5 p.m. Saturday … Also on stage, Wahiawa day center participants shared the spotlight March 21 at Manoa Valley Theatre as part of Lanakila’s “Dance Around the World” show …
A belated note of sympathy for state Rep. Marilyn Lee and her family for the loss of her husband Sam Lee, 81. The former Mililani advocate, lawmaker and U.S. diplomat died Feb. 10 (while I was off-island), followed by tributes from the Legislature, the Mililani neighborhood board and many others for his decades of dedication to the community … Congratulations to new Eagle Scout Adam Waite of Mililani and Troop 180, who also won a 2012 Fred Trotter Eagle Scholarship as best youth speaker. He’ll be honored at a Boy Scout banquet April 25 …
The Wahiawa boy did it again. Chef Alan Wong‘s The Blue Tomato cookbook, published locally and co-written by Arnold Hiura, won the Chefs and Restaurants division of the International Association of Culinary Professionals Cookbook awards. And Alan credits his entire kitchen team for its success … U.S. Rep. Colleen Hanabusa nominated 10 for U.S. service academies for 2012 including Mililani residents Cody Driver and Troy Esaki – both in consideration for a Naval Academy vacancy
