Thumbs Up For Phonebooks
A drive to collect outdated telephone books on Oahu has successfully removed nearly 86 tons of gummed yellow and white paper from the island landfill for 2013. That’s according to The Berry Co., which collaborated with Hawaiian Telcom during January to collect them in bins from four island shopping malls, including Kahala Mall.
“The Oahu community has done their part to keep more than 170,000 directories out of landfills through the annual ‘Think Yellow, Go Green’ recycling program,” said Liz Woerth on behalf of the companies. Most of the haul will go to H-POWER as refuse-derived fuel to generate megawatts of energy for Hawaiian Electric Co.
Other collection sites were at Ward Centers, Windward Mall and the Town Center of Mililani.
