Thor: The Dark World

Overall, what did you think? I thought it was a pretty good sequel. A lot better than the first Thor.

Without giving away the ending, what was one of your favorite scenes? Thor’s (Chris Hemsworth) adopted brother, Loki (Tom Hiddleston), has some fun shapeshifting into different characters at one point in the film, allowing for a sudden cameo by another superhero from The Avengers – I thought that was a fun element.

On a scale of one to four stars, what would you rate this film? ★★ 1/2 I didn’t think it was as good as a lot of the other superhero films floating out there now, but it’s come a long way from the first film.

What did you think of the cinematography? I thought the cinematography was OK. Thor: The Dark World is kind of a smash-’em-up action flick, so I don’t think cinematography plays a huge storytelling role in this movie.

Was the message/theme clear? I think the message was pretty clear, but it didn’t seem like there was a huge change from the start of the film to the end. At the beginning, Thor felt guilty and responsible for protecting people. Near the end, he feels pretty much identical, except a ton of stuff gets destroyed along the way.

Did any of the actors stand out? Anthony Hopkins, who portrays Odin, King of Asgard and Thor’s father, is an incredible actor, and he shines in this role as the burly, bearded warrior king. Hopkins and Tom Hiddleston carry a lot of the more-serious acting in the film. Natalie Portman also stands out, but it’s because I think she’s a cutie.

Did you identify with any of the characters? The story and characters in Thor: The Dark World are larger than life, so I think the filmmakers try to particularly emphasize everyday struggles, like long-distance relationships, feeling like a fish-out-of-water sometimes and sibling conflicts.

What’s your favorite movie snack? I like popcorn and a Diet Coke.

On a different note, what’s new with you? Besides graphic design and brand management, my company produces a clothing line featuring original cartoon characters such as wizards, robots, pirates – different beloved icons from childhood. We’re debuting two new figures (a cowboy and a vampire) at Basique Threads in Ward Warehouse this week. Oh, maybe we’ll create a superhero next! Or a Viking.
