Where and with whom did you see the movie?
I saw the movie at Ward Theatres with fellow female comic Brandi Morgan.
Overall, what did you think?
We both thought the movie was hilarious, with a few real laugh-out-loud scenes. Cameron Diaz (Carly) and Leslie Mann (Kate) turn out to be a great comedy team, playing mistress and wife, respectively, of Nikolaj Coster-Waldau (Mark).
Without giving away the ending, what was one of your favorite scenes?
The two most funny scenes were when Cameron Diaz (Carly) shows up to her boyfriend’s house in full slut-plumber gear, not realizing until that very moment that he is married. Also funny is when Mark’s wife, Kate, puts laxatives in his scotch to get back at him for cheating, and having obviously spent hours in a restaurant restroom, he emerges wearing the absolute tightest red, borrowed skinny jeans known to man!
On a scale of one to four stars, what would you rate this film?
I would rate it ★★★1/2. It was a comedy movie done well, and the characters weren’t just caricatures, they were well thought out.
What did you think of the cinematography?
Nice cinematography, especially the beautiful scenes at Kate’s brother’s beach house and the scenes in the Bahamas.
Was the message/theme clear?
Yes! Don’t cheat on your wife … especially with three women who will work together to try to take you down. A funny line from mistress Carly when the second mistress Amber (Kate Upton) appears: “I’m glad she’s hot. She brings up the group average!”
Did it remind you of any other works of film?
Yes, it reminded me somewhat of the 1980s movie Nine to Five – a similar theme, only instead of taking down the jerk boss, they attempt to foil the cheating husband.
To whom would you recommend this movie?
Adults who are looking for a really good laugh and who love comedy.
Did any of the actors stand out?
Probably Leslie Mann was the best character and was the glue that held the movie together. She somehow simultaneously plays a woman hurt, sad and mourning for a cheating husband; an ebullient partner in crime with mistresses Diaz and Upton; and a dippy, confused airhead – all at the same time. A brilliant performance.
Did you identify with any of the characters?
Absolutely! I share strong sisterhood bonds with my Female Comics of Hawaii – a lot like the three main women in the movie do. If any man cheated on me, they’d have my back in a flash!
Did the soundtrack contribute significantly to the film?
Yes, and quite an eclectic combination of songs were used, I must say: Girls Just Want To Have Fun juxtaposed with the Mission Impossible theme and New York, New York, among other songs.
Would you buy this movie when it comes out on DVD?
Yes, absolutely.
What’s your favorite movie snack?
Love the mochi popcorn.

Female Comics of Hawaii will perform original comedy at our next show Saturday, June 14, at 8 p.m. at Downbeat Diner & Lounge in Chinatown. Cover at the door is $10.
