What is your official title/occupation?
Head/founder of the Female Comics of Hawaii group and self-employed watercolor artist.
Where and with whom did you see the movie? Kahala Consolidated Theatres with fellow Female Comic of Hawaii member Patrice Scott.
Overall, what did you think? We both loved it: fast-paced cop movie that also was a chick tear-jerker, a buddy movie and no romance needed.
Without giving away the ending, what was one of your favorite scenes? The scene where Melissa McCarthy and Sandra Bullock drink in the dive bar all night and end up dancing with the hilarious redneck regulars to ’70s funk music, and end up passing out in the booths was the funniest!
On a scale of one to four stars, what would you rate this film? I’d give it ★★★★, mostly because it was such an original idea. Whodathunkit, but the fast-paced, cop chick flick so works!
What did you think of the cinematography? It was great, especially the city scenes in Boston, a beautiful city.
Was the message/theme clear? I always love buddy movies like The Blues Brothers and Thelma & Louise. The “us against the world” theme was pretty clear with the two female cop main characters.
Did it remind you of any other works of film? No, and that was the best part. Here was cinema originality in the form of a fast-paced, cop chick flick, tear-jerker and comedy all at once. Well done!
To whom would you recommend this movie? Anyone looking for a high-paced comedy – men and women both – but not for kids.
Did any of the actors stand out and did you identify with them? Sandra Bullock and Melissa McCarthy both stole the show as strong female cops who don’t take any crap from the men. I like to think I’d come up with dialogue as witty as that. The characters were over-the-top confident yet self-deprecating all at once, which to me is the mark of good comedy writing, striking that delicate balance.
Did the soundtrack contribute significantly to the film? Yes! A good, eclectic mix of ’70s funk R&B, switching it up with rap for the scenes with faster action.
Would you buy this movie when it comes out on DVD? Possibly, I think it may be a classic.
What’s your favorite movie snack? Red Vines and Hurricane popcorn.

I am putting together my group’s next monthly Female Comics of Hawaii show at Adega Potuguesa Restaurant in Chinatown Saturday, July 27, at 6:30 p.m. Tickets cost $40 and include a three-course meal and comedy.
