Telling MA’O Organic’s Story
The story behind the vegetables — and about food sustainability as a whole — will be revealed at 7 p.m. Thursday at Emmanuel Church in Kailua.
MA‘O Farms’ co-founder Gary Maunakea-Forth will discuss “MA‘O Organic: Its Story” May 14 as part of the church speaker series. The Wai-anae farm works to reconnect young people to Hawaiian values and practices, as well as to emphasize sustainable, organic food production in Hawaii.
Two tons of MA‘O Organic produce is sent to restaurants and markets like Whole Foods and Foodland every week. The farm also offers 140 yearly internships, though applicants should note there is a two-year waiting list.
A question-and-answer session and refreshments will follow the free talk.
