Sweet Onion Fest Fun For Whole Family
Aloun Farms is all about onions and fun this weekend. Its third annual Sweet Onion Festival will be open from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. April 25-26 at the farm, located on the Ewa plain where thousands of onions grow.
The festival also offers live entertainment, keiki rides, hayrides, a farmers market, local foods and prizes, including a $100 gift certificate to Ko Olina’s Monkeypod Kitchen, a neighbor island trip on Island Air, and the crowning of the first Ewa Sweet Onion Champion.
Admission is $3, with no charge for children under 2 — or for those who donate two garbage bags’ worth of clothes. Hawaii Foodbank will man a tent at the event to accept nonperishable food. Food donors receive a bag of Aloun Farms’ onions.
Attendees also can pick their own corn, string beans and sunflowers on the 1,000-acre diversified farm, which is located at 91-1440 Farrington Hwy., between Waipahu and Kapolei. For more details, call 392-1397.
