Swap Sales Benefit Civic Clubs
The Oahu Council of Hawaiian Civic Clubs hosts a community swap meet from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sept. 15 in the parking lot of Hawaii Maoli, featuring hundreds of items and various food vendors.
The goal of the event is to raise money to send delegates to a convention in Washington, D.C., in October, where civic clubs from across the country will gather. The Oahu Council is one of five councils in the Association of Hawaiian Civic Clubs and consists of 27 clubs throughout the island. Oahu Council president Mahealani Cypher explained that the group is involved in a range of activities, including restoring historic sites, teaching Hawaiian crafts, cultural values and traditional practices, and advocating on issues of importance to Native Hawaiians.
Hawaii Maoli is located at 91-1270 Kinoiki St. in Kapolei next to the Department of Hawaiian Home Lands building.
