Super Citizen has relocated from Chinatown to Kahala Mall, offering a bigger selection, new brands and longer hours.

The store carries trendy fashions, unique gifts and locally handmade jewelry and clothing for women, men and babies. Many of its products are from local designers or artists, and most of its gift items are sustainable or eco-friendly.

“We really care about where our products come from, who makes them, where it’s made and who it supports,” explains Sandra Fowler, who owns the store with husband Brian. “If we can first buy from Hawaii we do that. If not Hawaii, then USA. And if the product is organic or somehow greener, then that’s another plus.”

Fowler, who was born in Korea and raised in Honolulu, has always wanted to own her own boutique or be in the fashion industry from a very young age. She received a fashion merchandising degree from University of Hawaii, and worked various fashion-related jobs including in the Los Angeles corporate office for Forever21, as a fabric coordinator and custom order production manager for American Apparel in Los Angeles, and as an assistant buyer for a local company.

“I feel very blessed to be able to have my dream job,” says Fowler. “Once settled (here at Kahala) I’d like to create my own fashionable eco-friendly line in the next year or two. “By supporting a small local business like Super Citizen, people are not only supporting me and my dreams, but other local artisans and their dreams. Some are stay-at-home moms or teachers by day. It’s so amazing how many creative people there are in Hawaii, and my store supports their dreams.”
