State Recruits Homes For Area Foster Kids

Windward residents able to open their homes to keiki in foster care are invited to attend an informational session about the process from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Oct. 21 at Queen Liliuokalani Children’s Center’s Koolaupoko Unit, located at 46-316 Haiku Road.

The basic requirements of a resource caregiver for these children include having space for an additional child, income that covers household expenses and a clean criminal background check, as well as the willingness to provide a nurturing transitional environment for a child.

But the process involves much more than that.

Department of Human Services staff will discuss foster home licensing requirements and processes, and alumni caregivers and foster youths will share their stories.

Wendy’s Wonderful Kids adoption program and Family Programs Hawaii also will present their services.
