Where and with whom did you see the movie?
At Kahala Mall. My movie partner was Kanoe. She likes popcorn as much as I do!
Overall what did you think?
Very disappointing – as an audience favorite at Sundance, it failed all expectations. I expected it to be a comedy, but it was an autobiography. Laughs were very, very few.
Without giving away the ending, what was one of your favorite scenes?
The movie was only 80 minutes long, but can only be described as long and boring. The end was the best part.

What did you think of the cinematography?
This was actually not bad. It worked for what they were trying to portray, which is a segment in a comic’s life.
Was the message/theme clear?
No, it was not clear, but I’m going to go with “listen to your parents.”
Did it remind you of any other work in film?
No, I have never sat through such a poor movie in a theater.
To whom would you recommend this movie?
No one. We were the only ones left. The seven other people walked out. It would be great for an insomniac, as it could put you to sleep.
Did any of the actors stand out?
Birbiglia was an astonishingly pitiful character. As the audience in the movie responded to him more and more, the audience in the theater responded less and less.
Did you identify with any of the characters?
The main character is a struggling comic who needs to be pushed to accomplish anything. I don’t identify with this at all.
Did the soundtrack contribute significantly to the film?
No, it actually confuses the story.
Would you buy this movie when it comes out on DVD?
Oh no! This is more of a documentary than a movie for entertainment. A really long documentary for a short story.
What’s your favorite movie snack?
Popcorn!
On a different note, what’s new with you?
We have a new line of apparel with Hilo Hattie: great graphic T-shirts and washable silk aloha shirts! I love that part – just wash and dry – no ironing! And we have two new statues, our 2013 calendar that features Taylor Makakoa, and we started doing photo shoots in Japan! Their love of hula is so inspiring.
