Seminars Talk Building FAQs

Improving the quality of building permit applications is the city Department of Planning and Permitting’s (DPP) mission.

Toward that end, it has partnered with Building Industry Association (BIA) to conduct a series of seminars Sept. 29-Oct. 1.

The classes are open to the public as an educational opportunity for planning and design professionals to learn more about the city’s planning and permitting process.

Course topics include: introduction to the building permit process and back permitting, residential and commercial building plans, introduction to building inspections and the role of the building inspector, building in a flood hazard area, subdivision applications, navigating DPP’s online services, and building code updates.

According to the department, the goal of this program is to ensure applications and construction drawings are as accurate and complete as possible to maximize efficiency of the review process.

Classes will be run by DPP staff at the Building Industry Association-Hawaii Construction Training Center, located at 94-487 Akoki St. in Waipahu.

BIA members pay $25 per class, while non-members pay $35.
