Ryan Seacrest Distinction at Macy’s
Ryan Seacrest has launched his new tailored men’s clothing collection, called Ryan Seacrest Distinction, exclusively at Macy’s. The sophisticated line consists of suit separates, dress shirts, ties and accessories that are designed for easy mixing and matching through its Style Made Smart color matching system. “Thinking back to when I was growing up in Atlanta, I always loved to get dressed up for Sunday School,” he says, explaining to MidWeek why he started a clothing line. “My mom would put my suit on, my tie on, and if we went to Sunday brunch or Easter brunch, I would wear it. And I remember as a kid putting it on and feeling even better about myself. Feeling a little bit more confident.

“Fast Forward to when I started Idol. I worked very closely with Burberry and Christopher Bailey to come up with 30 suits a year that I could wear on the show, and after all the years I hosted, I thought, wouldn’t it be interesting for us to look at any void in the market, or opportunity for a very detailed suit at a very accessible price.”
The Emmy-winning host and producer met with various companies and asked for their research, and they all agreed there was a market for this. Within just one year, partnerships with Randa Accessories, Peerless Clothing and PVH were created, and in August the first Ryan Seacrest Distinction collection was delivered to 150 Macy’s stores nationwide with an official launch last month.
“The goal was to maintain the level, the quality, of really, really small detail into these suits and have them at a price that people could afford, even if it were their first suit for their first job interview,” says Seacrest. “I have bought a lot of clothes in the last 20 years. I love to wear great clothes. I love the detail. I learned a lot from Christopher Bailey. So, I’m not attempting to be a designer, but I did bring in who I think the best designers are, and gave them inspiration for what we want to try to create, which is a stylish apparel and accessory line for active men and contemporary men.”
Seacrest, who notes his last visit to Hawaii was two years ago, when he brought his family to Maui, compares Hawaii’s casual way of dressing to Hollywood, where he now lives. “It’s just as casual, but I do believe my generation, this young generation of professionals and entrepreneurs, they like to dress,” he says. “They want to make a good first impression. And I live by this: You never can be too overdressed for anything.”
