You’ll Want To Gobble Up These Burgers

I have been really spoiled and blessed to meet so many great chefs and cooks — and this ohana has to be one of my favorites. Tammy and Kaneala Smith own and operate Hale Kealoha Restaurant at Pali Lanes in Kailua, and they make some amazing traditional Hawaiian and healthy dishes. It’s a family affair, with everyone helping in the kitchen and running things. They use local meats, vegetables and fresh kalo.

Here is one of my new goto burgers — a must try!

TURKEY ULU BURGER

* 2 pounds ground turkey
* 1 pound cooked and grated ulu
* 1/4 cup teriyaki sauce
* 2 cups panko bread crumbs
* 2 tablespoons oil
* 12 hamburger buns

Mix ingredients well; form into patties and cook in pan with oil or cook on well-oiled grill for five minutes on each side.

Serve on hamburger buns. Garnish with your favorite toppings.
