Readers Theatre Debuts At Pohai Nani
Windward veterans of the stage will take part in the revival of Vanita Rae Smith’s Readers Theatre, which opens this week in Pohai Nani auditorium.
Performances are scheduled for 7 p.m. Tuesday and Thursday (Oct. 9 and 11) and 2 p.m. Sunday at the Kaneohe retirement community, featuring Grace and Glorie with Sylvia Hormann-Alper and Stef Anderson. Suzanne Green will do “sound effects.”
Smith, a Maunawili resident and former Army Community Theatre director, will direct the piece.
A.T. Miller, a Pohai Nani resident and theater patron, suggested the revival of the theater, which last played at Fort Shafter’s Richardson Theatre.
Grace and Glorie is a story of two women, one nearing the end of life and one much younger, who are suddenly thrust together. It debuted on Broadway with Estelle Parsons and Lucie Arnaz.
Windward Arts Council sponsors the production in association with Pohai Nani. Admission is free, with a calabash for dona- tions. For reservations, call 254-4885.
