Polo Season Kickoff Honors Rice, Baldwin
Hawaii Polo Club kicks off its 2015 season March 15 with a new theme and special honorees Peter Baldwin and Freddy Rice, legends in the history of Hawaii polo.
This year’s theme is “Honoring our Past, Celebrating our Present and Preserving the Future.”
Baldwin and Rice will be on hand to accept the Legends of Hawaii Polo award. The two sportsmen, along with Fred Dailey and Bim Wilson, comprised the original Hawaii Polo Club core team that reigned in the 1960s, competed throughout the season and annually challenged visiting British teams.
The season’s kickoff match will feature a presentation by Pa‘u unit Aha Pulama Pa‘u Holo Lio.
Halftime will feature the cowboys of Halau Aha Pulama Pa‘u Holo Lio. Paniolo music and a barbecue will follow the matches. The event benefits Aha Pulama Pa‘u Holo Lio.
Gates open at 10 a.m. and the ceremonies begin at 12:30 p.m. Thereafter, matches are held every Sunday through mid-August with gates opening at 11 a.m. and matches commencing at 2 p.m.
