Permaculture Workshop Set For Waimanalo Farm

Transition Oahu will conduct a Permaculture Design Certificate course July 27-Aug. 10 to bring this agricultural methodology to the Windward side.

Permaculture is agriculture that focuses on more than producing a single crop. It’s intended to be sustainable, something that becomes a permanent part of the ecosystem.

The two-week workshop will run from 9 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. daily at Green Rows Farm in Waimanalo. The class will break on July 31 and Aug. 5. Hunter Heaivilin and Matthew Lynch will instruct students in permaculture principles, ethics, soil fertility management, landscape adaptation, site design, climate science and more. The course will include visits to Oahu permaculture sites, as well as team design projects for clients in the community.

Those who complete the course will earn a Permaculture Design Certificate from Asia-Pacific Center for Regenerative Design.

Fee is $1,500 general and $1,100 for kamaaina, with a $100 discount for those who register by July 5. Further discounts are available for students, teachers and those who will not be staying on farm property. Tuition includes course fees, onsite camping and meals. Register at tinyurl.com/nalo2014.
