Pearl City Venues Help Annual Foodbank Drive
West Oahu residents can help their hungry neighbors by dropping off donations of canned food or money at two local shopping centers this Saturday.
As part of Hawaii Foodbank’s 23rd annual statewide drive, the local collections are planned from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Pearl City Shopping Center and Pearl Highlands Center as well as seven other Oahu collection sites.
With the food bank’s daily supply dwindling, community help is critical for restocking its shelves. Its warehouse currently has about 11 days’ worth of food.
“The annual drive is our largest fundraiser for both canned goods and monetary donations,” the charity states on its web-site.
“The core of our mission is to ensure that no one in our ohana goes hungry.”
Volunteers age 16 and older also are welcome to work in shifts on Saturday, helping with sign-waving, fish-netting for dollars, collections, sorting, refreshments, registration, information and cleanup.
