Kāne‘ohe Elementary School Students Build Up ‘STEAM’
As part of the Chamber of Commerce Hawai‘i’s Engineering Sector Partnership initiative, the organization recently partnered with Kāne‘ohe Elementary School for a Women in STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Math) Day to generate interest in all aspects of the engineering field. (Bottom) Jill Davis, Lori Higashi, Christine Tamura, Jennifer Tokunaga and Nicolette Uemoto visit Kāne‘ohe Elementary School and share about their professions with a fun hands-on activity called Master Builders. (Below) Civil engineer Higashi shows third-graders Dylan Ikeda, Makana Duldulao, Kaikena Leopoldo and Alexis Onomoto the building materials they have to work with to create a structure to improve their school. (Right) Civil engineer Tokunaga and structural engineer Tamura listen to the ideas and help brainstorm with third-graders Ryan Hunt, Tayven Hirota, Adrian Rhodes and Isaac Esmond-Schadel. (Below right) Civil engineer Uemoto gives a little helping hand as third-graders Jaxon Saavedra, Garrett Ida and Nina Salts make some finishing touches on their structure. LAWRENCE TABUDLO PHOTOS
