Throughout the fundrais- er, students were enticed with incentives ranging from personalized Yeti water bot- tles and gift cards to class- room prizes like extra free time, no homework or even watching a movie in class. Staff got in on the fun, too, with principal Samuel Izumi promising to wear a chef’s hat while serving lunch to students once the school reached its $5,000 goal. Izumi and McIntosh also led teams that duked it out in a cardiodrumming battle during the Cardiodrumathon once the $10,000 benchmark was met.
Aloha surfers and beach- goers,

“It was a wonderful way to celebrate the end of the first quarter together,” McIn- tosh says.
Red Bull has commis- sioned the incredible art- ist Kamea Hadar of POW! WOW! fame worldwide to create the mural. POW! WOW! Worldwide is a gathering of contemporary
artists who engage with the broader community in the process and creation of art. This will be such an honor for Moore. Like Ka- hanamoku, she lives her
life humbly perpetuating aloha around the globe, and both continue to enrich the world.

Wow, November kicked off with a warning lev- el northwest swell of up to 18 feet Hawaiian scale (30-foot crest to trough). Waimea broke and the out- er reefs cracked; the usual reefs we surf were closed out, washed out and un- recognizable.
Now let’s roll on — like the big waves —with some big news. Did you hear about Hawai‘i’s new five- time world surfing champ and first ever Olympic gold medalist Carissa Moore’s latest good news? She is being honored with a new mural — alongside Duke Kahanamoku — on King Street between Pensacola and Pi‘ikoi! This project is hoping to be done mid to late November.
This happens anytime the surf hits that high surf warn- ing threshold of 25-foot faces — or what hardcore locals would call 15 feet. This tradition of the Hawai- ian scale can be the subject of another week, but just to clarify, it is “scientifical- ly and statistically valid” with about 50 years of surf observation to back itself up. At surfnewsnetwork. com, we incorporate both,

take PRIDE in everything we do. P for perseverance, R for responsibility, I for in- tegrity, D for Dolphins and E for every day, everywhere. Therefore, with a ‘U-Knight- ed’ effort, we exemplify Ka- punahala PRIDE because we are better together.”
In the meantime, the com- munity is welcome to relive the fun — including grade level presentations cho- reographed by performing arts teacher JP Tai, and the cardiodrumming battle be- tween Izumi and McIntosh and their respective teams — by viewing videos from the event at kapunahala. k12.hi.us/students/perform- ing-arts.
