After 17 Years, Glow Putt Owners Gerry And Christel Houser Are Retiring

“One girl had celebrated her first birthday at Glow Putt and now she’s 16.”
In the 1990s, Gerry taught golf in Phoenix and opened the first Glow Putt there. When the couple’s son came to the islands to attend Ha- wai‘i Pacific University, he convinced his parents to re- locate and open a Glow Putt on O‘ahu.
The Housers opened Glow Putt in Ala Moana Center, where the business operated for nearly three years be- fore the owners moved it to Windward Mall. The Hous- ers explained that they “love how family-oriented Wind- ward Mall is and enjoyed meeting the customers that come from all around the is- land to play mini golf.”

When the Housers decid- ed to retire, they knew they couldn’t sell Glow Putt to just anyone. They found Mike and Lisa Driggs, a lo- cal couple who lives in Kai- lua. When they learned that the Driggs want continue to run Glow Putt for keiki and theirfamiliestoenjoy,rather than solely as an investment, the Housers knew that the business was in the right hands. The Driggs family plans on running Glow Putt, as the Housers did, by them- selves with some help from their older daughters, and
Gerry says that more than 60% of the families that visited Glow Putt were not from Kanē‘ohe but enjoyed the experience enough to make the drive to the Wind- ward side.
“The kids look forward to coming here and we look forward to seeing them grow up, seeing their faces so ex- cited to play. That’s probably what we’ll miss the most,” Gerry says.
As they retire later this month, the Housers plan on taking care of Gerry’s mom, playing golf and, hopefully, being able to travel. They are also looking forward to be- ing closer to family, includ- ingtheirtwograndkidswho are 6 and 9 years old.
