Free Digital Classes At Windward Community College
Windward Communi- ty College will offer a free three-hour digital readiness course for Hawai‘i residents (18 and over). with little or no computer skills throughout the months of May and June. Students will learn basic com- puter operations and how to use the internet, and create an email account, through which they will receive addition- al free online resources for improving digital skills and more.
Council’s Workforce Resil- iency Initiative to provide digital skills to Hawai‘i’s residents and build a digitally ready workforce. According to a recent U.S. Department of Education report, Americans who are not digitally literate tend to have lower labor force participation and work in low- er-skilled jobs.
“The digital readiness class is such a confidence booster to my students,” states Dr. Helen Au.
“I felt the digital readiness class brought up something that I wanted to learn for a long time,” states student Robert Barry.
“When they completed the three-hour class, they took home the skills they need to browse the inter- net and to set up an email account. Seeing the smiles on my students’ faces when they learned in class was the biggest reward ...”
“I didn’t really know how to do certain things with tech- nologies. Now, I am more comfortable to use the com- puter and experiment a little bit more.”
