Kāne‘ohe Teachers Get Tech
The teachers and keiki at Kāneʻohe Ele- mentary School are beneficiaries of a pro- gram by Honolulu Board of REALTORS.
This effort came to fruition as a result of a $20,000 lead gift from Honolulu Board of REALTORS and its industry partners, and also included matching donations from its members.
Realtors distributed technology kits to 217 educators across more than 60 different schools on O‘ahu and Moloka‘i as part of its Tech for Teachers program.
“The pandemic brought on a lot of chal- lenges that were unforeseen,” notes Krissy Barrett, a technology coordinator for Milil- ani Mauka Elementary. “But with your help, the teachers will be better able to teach and reach our families, and it will also give them an opportunity to have better relationships with their students.”
An association with more than 6,500 members, the board raised more than $46,000 for wireless headphones, computer monitors, cameras and numerous other tech items to assist teachers and help with stu- dents’ distance learning.
“Educators have worked tirelessly throughout this pandemic to continue to teach the next generation of leaders and in- novators,” states Shannon Heaven, president of Honolulu Board of REALTORS. “We’re grateful for the opportunity to help ensure every teacher who applied received technol- ogy tools they need, so students can benefit from a better distance learning experience.”
The board is focused on its numerous com- munity efforts such as REALTORSCare Fund. Last year, it donated more than $190,000 to myriad nonprofits and programs, like Cath- olic Charities Hawaiʻi, Domestic Violence Action Center, Hawaiʻi Foodbank, Hawai- ian Community Assets and others.
