  The Grateful Gourmet
When I was growing up we ate dinner togeth- er as a family every day. By the time I was a mom, family dinners were hit or miss. I worked 12-hour shifts as a registered nurse and got home after my daughter, Jasmine, was in bed.

I encourage you to gather at least twice a week. Find your lost table, and make mealtime a daily ritual of con- nection and gratitude. The results will bring rewards that enrich your life and the lives of those you gather with for generations to come.

 LINGUINE IN CLAM SAUCE
Ingredients:
• 1-pound box of linguine
• 2 blocks butter
• 2 cans of chopped clams with juice • 1 bulb of garlic, minced
• Juice of 1/2 lemon
• 1/2 cup of white wine, optional
• 1 sprig of fresh rosemary cut up
(don’t use the hard stem)
• Flat leaf parsley, fresh Parmesan
cheese and grape tomatoes for gar- nish
Directions:
Prepare linguine as directed, saving 1 cup of pasta water, set aside. Melt 2 blocks of butter. Add clams with juice, minced garlic, lemon juice. Simmer on low for 5-10 minutes. Place noodles in a large bowl. If noodles are stuck together, add a little pasta water to loosen them. Pour clam sauce over noodles. Garnish with parsley, cheese and a few sliced grape tomatoes to add color contrast to make it pop.
Looking at most American lives, it appears that the dinner table has been lost. It’s been replaced with hast- ily chomping on something on the way to volleyball, or some other extracurricular activity. As a nation, we have lost more than the dinner table, we’ve lost cher- ished family time spent hearing about each other’s day, and discussing current events. With no table to gather around, our meals are not as appreciated or relished. I find this tragic. There are only two of us at home now and I’ve recently reinstated eating at the ta- ble, not in front of the TV. We put our cell phones away. We are present and eat joyfully. It’s nice. We look into each other’s eyes and have a real conversation. It’s wonderful.
Here is a recipe to welcome loved ones back.
