Cacal then began design- ing, “in hopes of producing a cost-efficient green roof for the residents of O‘ahu.”
“This project provides a basis for the future of sustainability and explores the ideas of wide-scale implementation of green roofing technology.”
He used Revit 2023, a de- sign simulation tool, to proto- type a green roof system that would use recycled materials, produce food for inhabitants, regulate indoor temperatures, provide economic savings, offer better air quality and re- duce air pollution.
on O‘ahu with Arc GIS Pro, a mapping simulation tool, Cacal determined the prac- ticality of the green roof system, where the new roof design increased agricultural coverage and plant diversi- ty, reduced the cost of roof replacement and electricity and lessoned environmental impacts in 10 categories.
