 Local University Honors Alumnus With Prestigious Award

 Wayland Baptist Univer- sity – Hawai‘i, located at 599 Farrington Hwy. Ste. 300 in Kapolei, honored one of its alumni, Kelly Boquer-Wintjen, at a re- cent graduation ceremony.

“In both her leadership examples and her business experience, Boquer-Win- tjen is a great representa- tive of what is outstanding about Wayland alumni,” states Jeffrey Vera, direc- tor of alumni relations. “She is a servant in her workplace and is using her savvy to give back to her home country, and that makes her a great choice for distinguished alum- nus.”
 Boquer-Wintjen was given the 2022 Distin- guished Alumni Award and, next month, she will compete with winners from other Wayland Bap- tist University campuses for the Alumnus of the Year Award.
Outside of her day job, Boquer-Wintjen co-owns Encore Bags, a brand that transforms recycled juice packs into stylish and functional handbags and accessories, with her sister.
Boquer-Wintjen, who is a director of human re- sources for a locally based conglomerate with more than 1,200 employees, boasts more than 20 years of experience in her field.
For this entrepreneurial project, Boquer-Wintjen partnered with Kababai- hang Iisa ang Layun- ing Umunlad ang Sam- bayanan Foundation, a 500-plus-member wom- en’s organization in Ba- rangay Ugong, Pasig City, Philippines, from which Boquer-Wintjen hails.
Since 2005, Bo- quer-Wintjen has earned a master’s in human re- sources, master’s in educa- tion in HR specialization and a doctorate in manage- ment at Wayland Baptist University – Hawai‘i.
