About 1,300 freshman from James Campbell and Kapolei high schools re- cently attended the third annual Camp- bell-Kapolei Student Career Expo at Uni- verstiy of Hawai‘i–West O‘ahu, where they explored potential professions, thanks to the 70 employers that showed up in support.

According to Kiran Polk, executive di- rector of Kapolei Chamber of Commerce, the event’s purpose is to introduce the ninth-graders to a variety of fields just be- fore committing to their career academy selection — which carries out from their sophomore to senior years in the form of internships and mentorships — at their re- spective schools.

“These businesses come together to represent industry pathways for students to determine if those careers would be a good fit for them in the future,” states Polk.
“As the University of Hawai‘i campus in the students’ backyard, West O‘ahu has a critical role to contribute to the ed- ucational pipeline of growing our future leaders and workforce members,” Kenolio adds.
“Students interviewed employers from at least three career fields of their choice and had the opportunity to engage with many industry professionals.”
