Military-connected stu- dents will participate in project-based learning as they develop digital literacy skills through daily interac- tion with technology as part of computer science or engi- neering courses and a new Academy of Law and Public Safety.

The state Department of Education has been award- ed $5 million in grants to support military-connected students on O‘ahu. Among the schools that will directly benefit are several in West O‘ahu’s Campbell-Kapolei schools complex, which re- ceived $1 million.
skills training at Kapolei High School, Honouliuli Middle School, ‘Ewa Makai Middle School and Ho‘okele Elementary School.
The money is from the Department of Defense Ed- ucation Activity, which pro- vides education services to U.S. military families world- wide. It works closely with the state DOE to expand opportunities at Hawai‘i public schools with a signif- icant population of students whose parents serve in the military.
Officials will do this by creating new coalitions with businesses and industry partners to build mentoring opportunities and STEM (science, technology, engi- neering and math) pathways.
