Association Introduces West O‘ahu Students To Its Industry
For the first time since the pandemic began, General Contractors Association of Hawai‘i taught dozens of West O‘ahu high schoolers a few tricks of the trade at a workforce development pro- gram earlier this month.

It’s all part of an initiative to introduce young people to the construction industry.
Students learned about a variety of topics, including job site safety, plan reading, estimating and scheduling, and participated in hands- on construction projects, including widening side- walks and installing pre-cast concrete benches, as well as building new picnic benches for Waipahu High School.
“We’re all doing our part to invest in Hawai‘i’s next generation of construction professionals,” states Kaw- ika Nakoa, project manager at Albert C. Kobayashi Inc., who is one of the lead orga- nizers of the program.
