A fter acquiring a new science build- ing and portables for James Campbell High School the last few years, I am proud to report that pro- jections show Campbell is not expected to have an over- crowding issue next year. But as my constituents know, this is not normally the case. There has been overcrowd- ing at Campbell for decades, and with our constant pop- ulation growth, we are sure to reach overcrowding there

cused on modernizing Camp- bell. An example of this is the new athletics master plan coming to fruition. This year we installed new softball and baseball fields with a locker room and comfort station for the girls and the coming year will see a new track and football/soccer field, and oth- er Title IX improvements. The new stadium seating and larger locker and weight rooms will follow these im- provements per the master plan that we began funding in the 2018 state budget. governor and his adminis- tration will make this school a priority and continue to move this project forward. In addition to reducing future overcrowding at Campbell, this vital project will help re- duce traffic along Fort Weav- er Road, create many jobs in construction and education, boost financial opportunities for our local businesses, and is sure to become an essen- tial building block in our West O‘ahu community.
and permanent high-quality buildings are next on the to- do list.
Principal Jon Henry Lee and his faculty and staff at Campbell do a fantastic job with the resources they have, and I applaud their work. As a college professor, I have seen many graduates in my classes and I am continually impressed by their quality.
I want to thank state Reps. Sylvia Luke (finance chair) and Kyle Yamashita (finance vice chair), who heard the needs of ‘Ewa Beach and the surrounding communities. Together, we in the legislature allocated in this year’s state budget more than $355 million for a new state-of-the-art public high school for ‘Ewa Beach and east Kapolei.
In ‘Ewa Beach, we are not restricted to fighting for either Campbell or a new mega-high school; we have the clout to fight for both and secure what our community needs and give our keiki what they deserve.
