Come July 9, world-class professional soccer play- ers will be kicking a ball around Waipi‘o Peninsula Soccer Complex from 8 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. — and West O‘ahu keiki ages 6-13 are invited to join them.
the organizer of Pacific Rim Cup. “As Hawai‘i contin- ues to recover from the pan- demic, we hope this is just the first step to us bringing back the professional tour- nament games in the near future, underscoring our commitment to continuous- ly provide world-class soc- cer to the islands.”
The Pacific Rim Cup is a free summertime soc- cer clinic that has a goal of mentoring local soccer youth with hopes of return- ing its professional tourna- ment games to Hawai‘i in the future. In years past, the event was held at Aloha Stadium.
This year, attendees can learn the ropes from a mix of former professional players including Hawai‘i’s Kenji Treschuk and Japan’s Takuya Yamada, and cur- rent professional players like Hawai‘i’s Shandon Ho- peau of the Seattle Sound- ers.
“It’s been over two years since we last hosted our popular clinic for Hawai‘i’s keiki which sold out within minutes,” states Takehiko Nakamura, president and CEO of Blue United Corp.,
Registration for the kei- ki soccer clinic is available through June 17 online at pacificrimcup.com.
