his platform with hope that more young people will get involved in the mission. He says he is “committed to the fight against Big Tobac- co and to the fight for jus- tice — because that’s what it means to be Hawaiian.”
The event was put on to reflect on the last couple of decades the organiza- tion has been in service, look toward its future goals and honor a collection of young leaders from across the country who fight for a tobacco-free lifestyle — in- cluding Ching.
“From learning the in- tricacies of the legislative process firsthand to orga- nizing with passionate and amazing individuals from across the islands, being an advocate has had a monu- mental impact on my life, and my aspirations for the future,” states Ching.
He will be continuing his advocacy work at Yale Uni- versity this fall.

“Winning this award is a testament to the fact that our council of teenagers on an island in the middle of the Pacific not only has the capacity to create change but is actively being recog- nized,” he adds.
The Coalition for a To- bacco-Free Hawai‘i is a national trailblazer in re- ducing tobacco use through education, policy and ad- vocacy. Hawai‘i Public Health Institute, on the oth- er hand, works to advance the health and wellness of the people and islands of Hawai‘i.
