Carpenter Training Facility Opens On Lauwiliwili Street
In May of last year, Ha- waiʻi Carpenters Appren- ticeship & Training Fund broke ground on a $16 million facility at Kapolei Business Park. On Aug. 5, HCATF unveiled a brand- new 46,000 square foot facility, located at 2090 Lauwiliwili St., which will provide leading-edge train- ing for the local construc- tion workforce.
and program in Hawaiʻi that offers training for mill- wright work. We know that many renewable energy projects require millwright labor, and with Hawaiʻi’s renewable energy goals, we wanted to ensure that there is a labor pool of properly trained and skilled work- force,” states executive di- rector Edmund Aczon.
vide this growing need and training to our mem- bers and prospective mem- bers looking to get into the construction trade,” states Ron Taketa, co- chair of the HCATF board of trustees, and executive secretary-treasurer for the Hawaiʻi Regional Coun- cil of Carpenters. “There continues to be a need for skilled construction and tradespeople as the indus- try has remained steady and there’s continued work in the pipeline. And, our union members earn a liv- ing wage, which allows them to work and stay in their island home.”

HCATF, which is a part- nership of various major construction industry or- ganizations, trains appren- tices in carpentry, drywall and millwright. Previously, those with Hawaiʻi Region- al Council of Carpenters had to fly to the mainland for training.
According to the organi- zation, millwrights install, maintain and repair com- pressors, pumps, convey- ors, turbines, monorails and other complex equip- ment in industries like clean energy, automotive, aerospace, energy, food processing and pharmaceu- ticals.
The community gathers for Hawai‘i Carpenters Apprenticeship & Training Fund’s grand opening at Kapolei Business Park.
