Hawaiian Electric recently donated a total of $36,000 to six West Oʻahu nonprofits that are working to improve the lives of youth, kūpuna and/or underserved com- municates. Funds went to Boys & Girls Club of Ha- waiʻi’s Nānākuli Clubhouse to help keep its programs and resources operating; Nānākuli High and In- termediate School senior Shanny Gita (via a scholar- ship from Hawaiʻi Lodging and Tourism Association); Hiʻohia, a Native Hawaiian nonprofit that shares cultur- al information with West- side schools; U.S.VETS– Waiʻanae, which serves non-veteran, vulnerable households in the area to prevent homelessness; Valley of Rainbows, a Waiʻanae-based organiza- tion that will launch the Kūpuna Disaster Prepared- ness Project to provide emergency supplies for up to 250 seniors; and lastly, Waiʻanae Coast Communi- ty Foundation, which coor- dinates food distributions in Kapolei and ʻEwa Beach, including at University of Hawaiʻi – West Oʻahu
