Mentors Are Her Crowning Achievement
Dear Darah,
I would like to thank Larry Na- kano and Tony Alcosiba, my wonderful directors of the Miss Hawai‘i Volunteer or- ganization. I can’t imagine embarking on the journey as their inaugural Miss Hawai‘i Volunteer without their guid- ance and protection. From our countless trips around the country, experiencing 30-de- gree weather, to expanding not only our taste for food but also in life experiences — thank you, Larry and Tony, for believing in me, especial- ly during the times when it was hard to believe in myself. Thank you for investing so
much love, time and energy into this organization.
thanks to you for being the best titleholder that we could ask for! You were able to beautifully showcase all of the pillars of this or- ganization, including the benefits of volunteerism, the importance of commu- nity service, and the need to promote the arts and phys- ical fitness. Everyone who met you, whether it was in the state of Hawai‘i or in Alabama, Alaska, Califor- nia, Georgia, New York or Washington, was impressed with your beauty, gracious- ness and spirit of aloha. You made the year of service so adventurous and fun for us. Congratulations on making Hawai‘i proud by winning the Fitness and Wellness
cluding Nicole Nakamatsu, Sophia Stark, Melody Higa and Remy Kobatake. We are confident that with the skills that you gained as our titleholders, you will lead Hawai‘i to a better future.”
Is there someone you’d like to thank? Mail letters to Mid- Week c/o Mahalo Nui at 500 Ala Moana Blvd. Ste. 7-500, Honolulu HI 96813, or email mahalonuiwithdarah@gmail. com. Include your name, where on the island you re- side, phone number and, if possible, the phone number of the person you’ re thanking so she can contact him or her. Darah Dung hosts “The Pet Hui” and “Island Driver,” both on Spectrum OC16.
I am incredibly grateful for not only gaining one, but two amazing mentors who make life so cosmic and awesome. Those experiences are what make life so exciting, but it’s the people who make it so special.
