“When we started work- ing together in 1997, I had 25 years of glass experience and Stephanie had advanced training in painting and col- or,” says Jenkins. “Combin- ing our talents, we began a still-ongoing collaboration, both being challenged in our skills and visions to create unified results, inspired by the environment and acts of nature on the Big Island.
“Initially we used tradi- tional, historic and cultural vessel shapes and platters, and later other forms such as pods, seeds and gourds,” he continues. “Later, our compo- sitions changed to fit natural pohaku shapes. We now work on a smaller scale, such as en- closed glass volumes.”
The show features 52 art- ists and includes more than 150 art pieces. A variety of media was used, including oil, watercolor, hand-dyed paper collage, fabric/fiber, turned wood, printmaking, charcoal, pastels, intaglio with Chine-Collé, painting on silk and pottery.
