Super Mario Bros. Movie, an animated film based on the classic Nintendo video game, is breaking box offiffice records. The pint-sized protagonist is voiced by Chris Pratt, while his confidantes, Lu- igi and Donkey Kong, are played by Charlie Day and Seth Rogan, respectively. Lending his voice as the movie’s love-obsessed and fifire-breathing villain, meanwhile, is this actor who’s starred in
movies like Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle and Tropic Thunder.
Hawai‘i’s own Auli‘i Cravalho is starring in the Amazon Prime series The Power. Based on the popu- lar novel by Naomi Alderman, it takes place in a world in which women have the ability to physically overpower men, thereby toppling centuries of conventional wisdom. Also featured in the series are John Leguizamo and this actor best known as the charming soccer player Sam Obisanya on Ted Lasso.
The coming-of-age comedy film No Hard Feelings releases in theaters June 23. Jennifer Lawrence plays Maddie, a woman desperate to save her childhood home so she accepts an ad from a couple who is looking for someone to date their painfully awkward teenage son. The parents are played by Laura Benanti and this actor who was the exact opposite of nerdy
in his titular role in Ferris Bueller’s Day Off.
This week marks 13 years since The Back-up Plan (previously known as Plan B) hit theaters. The romantic comedy stars Jennifer Lopez as Zoe, who gives up on finding the man of her dreams and decides to become a single mother via artificial insemination. But on the same day of her procedure, she meets Stan, who has the potential to be her ideal mate. He’s played by this actor who’s known in the islands for his starring role in Hawai‘i Five-0.
