breast cancer in 2005, she knew then that she needed the support of others to en- courage and help her through the ordeal.

“For me, having cancer, it was important that I sur- round myself with posi- tive people,” Tseu says. “It brings you down emotional- ly, physically, mentally and, of course, financially.”
After more than 500 trips to the dump, and with the help of her ‘ohana and friends, ‘Iwalani Foundation Healing Garden was created. The nonprofit “provides a positive environment filled with life and growth, a place for solitude, for visiting with friends who may be cancer survivors, and a place to cre- ate happy new memories and good experiences.”
ever, The ‘Iwalani Founda- tion hosts its Pretty in Pink & Race for a Cure Event 2022 from 1 to 4 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 23, at ‘Iwalani’s Healing Garden (91-2270 Old Fort Weaver Road). Guests can expect food, fun, entertain- ment, prizes and more.
happier than you arrived,” encourages Tseu.
What also helped her through this tribulation was devoting her time in restor- ing the Honouliuli ‘Ewa property she inherited from her father — the land where she was once raised. Every day, for eight weeks, after finishing radiation at St. Francis, Tseu would go there to tend to a land in disarray.
The garden offers a place of refuge for those afflicted with breast cancer. It is a place of prayer and medi- tation, and has classes on health and wellness. It even offers hula classes as a form of exercise.
There will also be a fash- ion show by Puamana De- signs and Best Dressed La- dies. The attire is to dress in one’s best pink and there will be a prize awarded to the best dressed. Tickets are $60 and those who wish to attend must RSVP as soon as possible. Call Pacita at 808- 428-3308.
The funds raised from the event will go toward resourc- es for ‘Iwalani’s Healing Garden, and will also help the publication of Tseu’s book Magnificent Women of Hawai‘i, which she hopes can be distributed at hospi- tals and libraries. She aspires to spread more awareness about the malady that has impacted her and what she affectionately refers to as her “bosom buddies.”
“I gotta create a garden, I gotta create a garden,” says Tseu in recalling the words that echoed in her brain. “I knew that I needed to contin- ue this vision, this mission, so that I could help others.”
“We can choose the lega- cy we want to leave behind,” says Tseu. “Aloha is not just a word, but an action.”
