 6 MIDWEEK OCTOBER 5, 2022
    Generous Patron Makes Tūtū’s Night
  Dear Darah,
Being isolated for a lengthy period, my baby daughter, Maria, wanted to treat me to eat out. Knowing I am fond of Mexican food and music, she drove me to Chile Relleno in Kāne‘ohe. We were seated in the rear of the restaurant to accommodate my wheel- chair and immediately felt the energy of the surround- ings. Music was provided by Ali Garcia, who pleased us by playing our requests with his wonderful singing and playing. I was surprised how the staff came to the table with a lighted candle and cake singing with the
others chiming in! As my daughter, Maria, was wheel- ing me to the restroom, she asked for the bill and was told it was already paid for. At this trying time, there are still people with lots of alo- ha. I want to say mahalo nui and muchas gracias for your kindness and generosity. You really brought joy to this 86-year-old Kaka‘ako-born lady and kupuna. Aloha ke akua!
Esther Punzal Maniago Punchbowl
Kudos to your daughter, Maria, for her thought- fulness and time, and, of
course, to this anonymous angel who wanted to cel- ebrate you! We all know that life isn’ t easy, but ev- ery day we get a chance to make a difference. Mahalo nui to this blessed person and cheers to you, Esther. I wish you many more can- dles to blow out!
the American Savings Bank parking lot in Kāne‘ohe on Aug. 16. Thank you to the lady who quickly came to his aid and went into the building to get help when she couldn’t do it by herself. A 73-year-old man came and helped my husband into the car. My husband is OK except for a slight bruise on the side of his leg. I’m sorry I didn’t get their names, but you can be sure I will pay it
forward if and when I can.
Barbara Wong Kāne‘ohe
Dear Barbara,
I hope that your husband is taking some time to re- lax with a little extra love at home. We never know when we will be challenged to act and perform imme- diately in an emergency, but it sounds like you were blessed to have two com- passionate people help when they saw you in need.
Is there someone you’d like to thank? Mail letters to MidWeek c/o Mahalo Nui at 500 Ala Moana Blvd. Ste. 7-500, Honolulu HI 96813, or email mahalonuiwithda- rah@gmail.com. Include your name, where on the island you reside, phone number and, if possible, the phone number of the person you’ re thanking so she can contact him or her.
