Singing The Praises Of A Generous Soul
  Dear Darah,
It has been diffi- cult for all of us due to not going out unless abso- lutely necessary because of COVID and other variants. People are being cautious and spending most of their time trapped in their homes. Melveen Leed (a local and international singer) gives so much of herself by doing a mini concert every Sunday on Facebook from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. This podcast is world- wide, and it brings such joy to all of us who are homebound either by choice or necessity. I do not have enough words to express my gratitude to her efforts to make all of us who
watch her feel less lonely, less stressed and forget the world’s troubles if only for two hours.
for bringing us happiness, lifting our spirits and sooth- ing our souls. Being at home is not so bad and more toler- able and fun listening to her God-given beautiful voice, funny stories, and seeing her radiant smile and kolohe laughter, which always makes me smile.

Dear Carol,
Thank you for recog- nizing this fearless woman who continues to entertain and share a piece of Hawai‘i all over the world through her musical talents. Leed says, “I started doing these worldwide Facebook con- certs in 2017 and continued
for 12 years at Ala Moana Hotel and during the show I would call every hospital in Hawai‘i and ask who was terminally ill. My audi- ence would say hello to that person and I would sing to them, and the next morning I would go and visit who I had sung to. Now, I do it from home and sing to them over the phone.
ery breath I take is for him. I think he kept me on this earth because I have work to do. It’s my mission. Ev- eryone’s given a mission on earth so search your heart and see what good you can do for others. Till my last breath I’ ll be singing for everyone.”
Is there someone you’d like to thank? Mail letters to MidWeek c/o Mahalo Nui at 500 Ala Moana Blvd. Ste. 7-500, Honolulu HI 96813, or email mahalonuiwithdar- ah@gmail.com. Include your name, where on the island you reside, phone number and, if possible, the phone number of the person you’ re thanking so she can contact him or her.
Despite her “young” age of 79 years old and having some health issues, she ra- diates kindness, warmth and genuine sincerity. No matter what is going on in her life or how she is feeling that day, she strives to make myself and all of us on Facebook so happy. She is always energet- ic, smiling and never misses her Sunday concerts.

throughout the pandemic. I sing all different genres of music and in seventeen different languages so peo- ple around the world can understand. I entertain a lot of people who are sick so I like to bring my shows to them for free. I performed
“I have had leukemia since 2018 and have been taking pills, which I will do for the rest of my life, but I’ m doing whatever I can while I’m on this earth. I have a positive way of think- ing and that’s what keeps me going. I praise the Lord for that and if it wasn’t for him, I wouldn’t be here. Ev-
I’ m honored and humbled to call her a friend who, by the way, gives the most awesome hugs and whose laughter is addictive. Mahalo, Melveen,
